You Should Try These Delicious South Indian Food On Your Next Trip

South Indian Food is widely famous in India and all around the world. In a way, there are many international hotels which are famous because of their south indian cuisines.

South Indian cuisine usually encompasses the five Southern states: Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Goa. The culture and geography of the South influence the regional cuisine. Similar to many nations, there are huge regional differences. 

South India has a hot humid climate, and all of its states are coastal.

Rain is in abundance there, and so is the availability of fresh vegetables, fruits and rice.

Andhra Pradesh produces the fiery Andhra food that is mostly vegetarian but also has a vast selection of seafood options in its coastal regions. Tamil Nadu has Chettinad cuisine that is possibly the most festive out of Indian cuisines. The Chettinad style too is mostly vegetarian.

From Kerala originates Malabari cooking, and its diverse menu of delicious seafood recipes. Hyderabad is home to Nizami food which is flavorful and rich and has a variety of tastes from spicy, sour to sweet. Hyderabadi food is packed with dried fruits, nuts and exotic spices such as saffron.

Every state has their unique style of making these dishes and flavors. The most popular spices used from South India are cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper.

The region is known for its diverse array of foods that are spicy and each state is distinct mostly in the intensity of the food, its various types and methods of cooking. The aroma of South Indian food is just out of the world. You should try these foods surely when you are planning your next trip south.

  1. Masala Dosa

A popular southern Indian dish, known as masala dosa is a popular dish across the country. It’s made of the batter of rice that has been soaked and lentils. It is made into a thin, crispy pancake and usually filled with onions, potatoes, as well as mustard seeds. You can have your favorite south indian dish with coconut flakes as well as chopped coriander.

Appam is a South Indian Food which is a kind of pancake, made with fermented coconut milk and rice batter that is popular throughout Kerala, Sri Lanka, and Tamil Nadu. Appam is typically consumed for breakfast or dinner. Plain appam or vella Appam are thin pancakes with a bowl shape made of fermentation-inducing rice flour.

  1. Puttu and Kadala Curry

Kerala has Puttu as a breakfast menu including Idli and Dosa. It is a delicious cooked cylinder of rice with coconut, served along with Kadala which is a Black pea curry. You can add two other options of bananas and pappadam with this dish as well. 

  1. Dry Mango Kuzhambu

A delicious, tangy curry infused using the delicious mango and tamarind. It is a refreshing treat to not skip out on. This delicious dish can be eaten with idli and rice and it is a very popular one in local South India.

Pongal, also known as huggi, is a very popular South Indian rice dish. It is a dish that can be found in Telugu and Kannada Pongali is an Indian dish made of rice that is mixed with sugar and boiled milk. Two varieties of pongal include chakkarai pongal sweet and venn, which is made with clarified butter. The term pongal is usually referring to spicy venn pongal, and is a typical breakfast food. Chakkarai Pongal is cooked during the festival of Pongal.
